Under snowy skies in a postcard setting, Silver Star Mountain Resort pressed the button and loaded the first passengers on the Alpine Meadows fixed-grip quad chairlift today. The Doppelmayr 'Unistar' fixed-grip quad chairlift covers a vertical of 229 metres (750 feet) and is 743 metres (2,400 feet) in length.
This new Alpine Meadows chairlift starts at the base of the old "Mid T-bar" and tops out near the summit of Silver Star Mountain Resort. The new chair has an uphill capacity of 1,200 people per hour and takes just five minutes to ride. Skiers and snowboarders will now had improved access to several "local knowledge" runs like Split Decision, Solitude, Lonestar, Ridge Run and the upper third of Christmas Bowl.
“It is with great excitement that I have the privilege to announce our fourth lift in 5 years at Silver Star Mountain Resort” beamed Michael Sherwood, General Manager, just prior to lighting the ceremonial fireworks. “The Schumann Family, owner of Silver Star and Big White, has invested over $26 million in resort infrastructure in less than 5 years at Silver Star. This new chair clearly demonstrates the Schumann Family and Silver Star Mountain Resort’s commitment to providing the best ski experience possible for our guests”.
