This past weekend saw alpine skiers and snowboarders discovering a world class in their own backyard. Silver Star Mountain Resort provided local skiers & snowboarders a complimentary opportunity to experience what cross country skiers from all over the world come to ski. “It was a huge success” says Nordic Manager Guy Paulsen. “We had great support from local business and suppliers to help make the over 120 people who participated in our Cross Over to Cross Country Promotion a positive first experience with Nordic skiing. Plans are afoot to run this complimentary event again next fall.”
The combined Nordic trail system (Silver Star & Sovereign Lake Nordic Center) is consistently ranked in the top three cross country skiing locations in the world by ski journalist, XC Ski Teams & athletes. “We are very fortunate to have great early snow conditions as well as an exceptional trail system adjoining a good neighbor like Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre. To have such an accessible world class facility in our backyard here in the Okanagan is really quite something” Paulsen continues.
Silver Star’s next Nordic event is March 2,3,4 when it hosts the Spring Loaded Telemark Festival showcasing the Western Canadian Telemark Championships. Telemark racers for all over western Canada and the US are expected to emerge at the Star for both the GS & Sprint Classic events.
