Silver Star Mountain Resort was honored by two awards from the Canadian Cancer Society this week. Deanna Salituro, Revenue Development Coordinator for South Interior Region of BC, along with Sarah Pruckl, revenue development assistant for Canadian Cancer Society in Vernon as well as the event chair for Vernon, awarded Michael Sherwood, Silver Star general manager and Ian Galbraith, Silver Star summer business manager with a Regional Community recognition award as well as a local appreciation award from the Vernon organizing committee.

“It is always rewarding to receive recognition for our community support,” commented Sherwood. “We have a really dedicated group at Silver Star and the Relay For Life is such a great community fundraising event for a good cause and one we’re very proud to be a part of.”

Silver Star Mountain Resort has been committed to the battle against cancer and been a part of the Vernon Relay For Life since 2007as an event sponsor as well as a participating team. In that time team Silver Star has raised over $50,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and vital research into cancer prevention and cures. It’s a cause that the team really gets behind every year and an event we all look forward to, commented Sherwood. “It’s a big commitment to raise money, organize and execute our sponsorship responsibilities and also host the events concession that donates 100 percent of proceeds to the cause, but a commitment that we’re more than happy to perform,” said Sherwood.

The Vernon Organizing Committee works extremely hard every year to put on this event and they are such a great group to work with, commented Ian Galbraith. “It is a highly dedicated group that brings this event together and one that we really enjoy working with each year”.

Silver Star is looking forward to participating again next June and is already building the team for next year’s Relay for Life 2012.
