The Royal Canadian Artillery Band to perform free public concerts at Silver Star Mountain and Vernon Army Camp July 26 and 27.
The Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) Band has a long tradition of providing musical support to the Canadian Armed Forces. They have been based in Edmonton since 1997, but their existence can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. It is one of six Regular Force bands stationed throughout Canada, with a complement of 35 full-time musicians. From military parades, ceremonial occasions, and government functions, to formal concerts or entertaining their fellow soldiers, the RCA Band can be heard performing in a variety of musical styles nationally and abroad. International highlights include performances in the United States, South Korea, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The RCA Band, in Vernon for the Okanagan Military Tattoo 2014, will be staying at Silver Star Mountain from July 25 through to August 3rd. During this time, they will be working with the Vernon Cadet Summer Training Program (VCSTP), specifically the cadets in the pipe band and brass/reed band. The RCA Band and the cadet bands will all be performing August 1st and 2nd in the Okanagan Military Tattoo 2014, Kal Tire Place.
The RCA Band will take the opportunity while in the area to present a concert, free to the public. The concert will be at Silver Star Mountain Saturday evening July 26 starting at 7 PM. Folks should bring lawn chairs and a jacket in case of cool weather. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be performed in the 180 seat NATC.
