The GoPro Film Project
The first GoPro Film Project has come to an end along with biking season at Silver Star Bike Park. This was a new event for Silver Star to host a weekend filming competition centered on the Silver Star Freeride Festival. Mountain biking is so strongly supported and promoted through the skilled film makers that love to ride and shoot mountain biking. GoPro cameras have had such a great influence on filming in all sports and especially mountain biking. As a result GoPro was quick to agree to support this project. We kept the rules fairly open for this event, they went like this: COMPETITION RULES
Video must be more than 90secs but no more than 270secs (4.5min)
Video must include at least 45secs of Silver Style Jump Jam competition
This competition gave film makers the chance to be really creative and go after some unique shots. For the first time hosting this event, there was a great response to this competition from the biking community.
After much deliberation by the judges and film critics, first place and top honours in the 2012 GoPro Film Competition is awarded to Jonathan Duncan. Jonathan’s video encapsulated the feeling of the biking road trip and the fun that is had when getting together with friends to ride. His event coverage of the Freeride Festival was worked seamlessly into the overall feel of the video. It may have helped that Jonathan had Sam Dueck as his weekend bike model for the competition! However, a favorite moment for the judges was when the follow cam rider got Sam stuck on the teeter totter on LTG. You can watch winning Jonathan’s entry here:
Thanks to GoPro Jonathan is now the proud new owner of:
Honourable mentions are due to Matt Butterworth and Eric Marciniak for their entries in the GoPro Film Competition. For their efforts both Matt and Eric receive a GoPro t-shirt and GoPro hat.
Silver Star and GoPro would like to thank everyone that sent in their entries to the first GoPro Film Competition. Big thanks go to GoPro for sponsoring this great event and being an amazing partner to work with.
Don’t forget that there is one more weekend left for riding at Silver Star Bike Park before we put the park to bed for the winter. The conditions are great for riding so come check us out Sept 15 & 16 for the last Bonus Weekend.
Enjoy the ride,
